Street Rehabilitation In The Works

City Streets will be receiving a makeover, as decided at the Napoleon City Council meeting last week Monday, February 2. All council members were present including Mayor Todd Moos, Rod Kleppe, Rich Bjerklie, Bob Humann, Mike Heying, Clark Haas and John Wald.

The council was made aware how the city was awarded a NDDOT Flex funding/Prairie Dog grant for up to $1.3 million to complete street rehabilitation. This is a 50% grant. It was noted in Moore Engineering’s report that the grant funds are likely going to be available in 2027, but more information will be available at a later date. 

The council discussed how they could use the funds to chip seal streets, questioning doing half the town or the entire thing all in one project. After determining that it would be more cost effective to chip seal the all streets in town in one project, they agreed to place a bid notice in the official city newspaper, the Napoleon Homestead. 

Also, while discussing streets, Haas discussed a sand/salt mix to help with ice on roadways and said it would be good to house the mixture in a building or lean-to that would be open ended to ventilation, but to keep the mixture dry and out of the elements.
