Wrestling Season Put On Hold

The N-G/S grapplers headed to the mats last Monday, November 9 for the first day of the 2020/2021 wrestling season. Head Coach Kriss McCleary reported 11 athletes out, including two seniors and none from the Gackle/Streeter School district. 

Last year the team finished 12th in state, while lone state champion was 2020 senior Garrett Jangula, who was a four time state champ. 

McCleary said one the goals this year is to be able to have the whole season, since there is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He also noted over half the team is 7th and 8th graders. “We want to build up to the next level. Our team is young. We need a slow and steady improvement from beginning to end. It’s a different balance of goals; the older kids need to work on the next step and the younger kids need improvement.”

McCleary said the first dual is scheduled for Thursday, December 3 in Napoleon against Edgeley.
