Season Comes To A Close In Region Qualifier
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls volleyball team put together a nice run in the post season. NGS entered the tournament as the 8th seed in Dist. 2 and came away as one of the top six teams as they lost to Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier in a Region I qualifier match. NGS lost in three straight sets, 12-25, 20-25 and 8-25 last Tuesday, Nov. 4, championship night of the tournament.
In the first set the Imperials jumped out to an early 5-3 lead before the Rebels rallied to hold a 13-7 lead. NGS head coach Kali Fettig and her squad were unable to make up the deficit in this set as EKM continued to roll to a 25-12 first set win.
The second set found the Imperials rallying early 4-6 before they etched their way in front, 7-6. The Imperials managed to build on the lead to hold a 17-13 lead just past the midway point of the second set. The Rebels, then managed a rally to jump out in front 18-19. The Imperials managed to tie the contest at 19. EKM managed to close out the second set by outscoring NGS 1-6 for a 20-25 win.
The third set was tilted the Rebels way from the start as they held a 3-12 lead. The Imperial offense never did get rolling in this must win set as the Imperials lost 8-25. With the loss EKM advances to Region I while the Imperials season comes to close at 10-25.
