Imperials Win On Day 2 Of District Tourney
After losing in opening round action of the District 2 Girls’ Basketball Tournament, #5 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter bounced back on day two for a convincing 53-29 win over the eighth seed South Border Mustangs, in loser out action.
In other day two action at the Napoleon High School Gym on Sat., Feb. 14 Medina-Pingree/Buchanan pulled a mild upset as #7 MPB beat #6 Ellendale 48-44 in the other loser out matchup. In semi-final action #1 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion slipped past #4 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 47-39 and #3 Linton/HMB upset #2 Kidder County 48-45.
Action resumed Mon., Feb. 16 after this newspaper had already gone to print. NGS faced KC in a region qualifier and MPB faced EKM in the other region qualifier. For the championship it was LaMoure/LM and Linton-HMB.
The Saturday afternoon loser out game between the Imperials and Mustangs started out slow as the contest was tied at 5 with 5:25 to play in the first quarter. The quarter closed with NGS adding 14, with freshman Hope Gross pouring in a dozen of her team high 20 points in this frame. Gross had a pair of treys and also went 4-4 from the line in the first quarter to help lead her team to a 19-11 margin after the first eight minutes.
