Imperial Girls Basketball Underway

November 22, 2022

The Imperial girls basketball team is back on the court as the 2022-2023 season started last Monday, November 14. Head Coach Caleb Ketterling reported 15 girls (8th-12th grades) out for the season.

Last year the team had one senior, Courtney Thompson, while this year there are four. With a record of 10-12, the team earned 4th place in district play, while they lost out the first round of regionals.

“Our goal is to improve every day and be right in the thick of the region. We gained two more players this year, which will help boost our depth a little bit. We are pretty focused and ready for a fun year with a nice mix of kids,” said Coach Ketterling.

The team’s first game is scheduled for Monday, November 28 in Napoleon against New Rockford/Sheyenne, followed by a second home game the next day against Ellendale.

One of the team’s leaders, senior Sophie Ketterling said the main team goal is the make it to state. “We want to make it past the first round of regionals and making it to state is always the goal, but I think we can make a good push this year; it’s exciting,” she said.

As it’s her last year of high school basketball, Sophie added, “It’s sad, scary and exciting, but extra special to have my dad as the coach.”
