Girls Wrestling Numbers Remain Steady; Father/Daughter Duo To Lead Team

The Imperial girls’ wrestling team is back in action, as practice started Monday, November 11.
Second year Head Coach Chris Weigel reported almost half the team is new this year, as five seniors graduated last year. He said they have 15 on the team, in which seven of them are new to the program.
Last year was the first year the girls had a team competing at the state team competition and they placed 7th. Weigel noted there will again be no class systems for girls’ wrestling competition, but only one division. “We are super young and our goals are to get better week in and week out; get back to state and work on our returning ones stepping up to help lead the team,” he noted.
Weigel also said there were seven athletes who qualified for the individual state tournament last season and four who placed; (Karissa Mann - 8th; Alexis Schneider - 1st; Ava Moser-5th; Jazlyn Weigel-3rd).
Joining the program this year in a new role, as an assistant coach instead of an athlete, is Jazlyn Weigel, who graduated from NHS last May. There were no other applicants for the position and her college schedule allowed for it, but also Chris said Jazlyn had a play in helping a lot of these girls come out for the team last year and she didn’t want to see them not have enough coaches. “I think they. . .
