Girls Win At the Buzzer In Oakes

December 23, 2025

After being off for 10 days, the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls’ basketball team traveled to Oakes where they took on the Oakes Tornadoes.

The Tues., Dec. 16 contest was decided by a buzzer beater, as NGS freshman Hope Gross, drove to the basket for a lay up and a 46-44 NGS win as time expired.

NGS head coach Paul Erbele and his squad applied full court defensive pressure from much of the game, which was filled with turnovers (32 for Oakes and 17 for NGS) and fouls (17 for Oakes and 20 for NGS). In the first quarter of play balls were not falling for the Imperials, but they still managed to hold an 8-3 lead, with 8 minutes in the books.

The second quarter the Imperials managed to extend their lead, as they held a 21-15 lead with time running out in the half, when Tornado Lexi Harris hit a triple at the buzzer, cutting into the NGS lead, 21-18.

After intermission fouls started to catch up with the Imperials as two starters,. . .
