Girls Place 3rd At State Golf
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls’ golf team came away with a third place finish at the State Class B Golf Tournament.
The Imperials, entered the 2-day event, June 1 and 2 at the Jamestown Country Club as the Region I champions. NGS head coach Caleb Ketterling and his squad put up a good fight and after the first day of competition they were sitting in third place with a 4-member team score of 349, just 7 strokes back of second place Heart River, while tournament favorite Kindred held an 18-stroke lead, with a 324.
Entering the second day of play, with second place within striking distance for the Imperials, the top three teams finished just as they did opening day - Kindred in first place with a blistering second day score of 316 and a total of 640, while Heart River carded a 343 on championship day and had a total of 685 while the Imperials came in with a 347, for 2-day total of 696, and a third place state finish.
There were 18 teams in the tournament with the other top ten teams: 4) Carrington 721, 5) Linton-HMB 726, 6) Grafton 738, 7) South Border 750, 8) Oak Grove 761, 9) Des Lacs-Burlington 810 and 10) Park River 854.
Leading NGS to the third place finish was sophomore Sophie Ketterling who shot an 83 and an 85 for a 2-day total of 168 and a 12th place finish; finishing in 17th place was junior Ashley Schmitt who had an 84 and 80-174; senior Charmaine Haas placed 20th with an 88 and 87 - 175; placing 27th was junior McKenzie Haas who had a 95 and 87 - 182; while sophomore Emma Ketterling placed 28th with 94 and 88 - 182; and rounding out the Imperial squad was 8th grader Jada Schwartzenberger who placed 58th, scoring 104 and 101 - 205.
