Girls In Another Close One, As They Lose By A Point
In the last two outings, the NGS girls’ basketball team lost by a total of two points. The latest loss was another one-point loss to Enderlin last Fri., Jan. 3.
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls’ basketball team played the first game of a double-header in Napoleon as they played host to the Enderlin Eagles.
The contest was tight throughout and the Imperials led at half-time 18-14 and at the end of three quarters 30-21, before losing 35-36.
NGS head coach Paul Erbele saw senior post player Ali Gross have a double-double, as she netted 18 and pulled down 11 boards, eighth grader Dawson Erbele scored 9 and had a dozen rebounds on the night.
In the first quarter of play it took roughly half of the first quarter before the Imperials got on the board, when Gross connected on pair of free throws. The first quarter closed with the Imperials only trailing by 1-point, 8-9.
The Eagles applied full court pressure for much of the game, but the Imperials did a better job of handling the pressure, turning the ball over 15 times on the night compared to Enderlin having 17. The Eagles sent the Imperials to the line on three different occasions in the first half and they shot a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe in the first half. The second frame also had four Imperials involved with scoring, as the first half ended with NGS out in front 18-14.
