Boys Go 1-1 In Stutsman Co. Shootout

After a lopsided first day loss in the Stutsman County Shootout, the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter boys’ basketball team bounced back for a second day win. On Sat., Jan. 10 the Imperials played the Kindred JV, who is a Division A school, at the Jamestown Civic Center and came away with a 53-44 win.

A pair of NGS juniors led the scoring attack for head coach Logan Klitzke as Brenden Zenker poured in 20 (5-treys) and Jackson Piatz had a baker’s dozen to lead the Imperials.

In the first quarter of play the Imperials jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first eight minutes, as Zenker cashed in a pair of triples in this frame, and freshman Chase Martin had a pair of deuces and Piatz offered a field goal and a free throw. In the second frame the Imperials scored 11 while giving up 9 to two Vikings. On the NGS side freshman Bradley Hottman had 5 (1-3), Martin had a deuce and Piatz added another 4, as NGS held a 24-14 lead at the break.

Following intermission Zenker dropped in 9, all from long range, of his game high 20, while Hottman contributed another 4 and sophomore in the middle, Owen Woodrow had a deuce, as NGS held a 39-20 lead with eight minutes to play.
