Once In A Lifetime Hunt For Heying

She grew up hunting and fishing with her dad and brother, but recently harvested her first big game animal. Kelsy Heying of Napoleon said she was lucky, as her once in a lifetime ND moose hunt ended in success within an hour of the rifle season opening.
Kelsy said she and her husband have been applying for a moose tag for about a decade and this summer when she opened the envelope revealing she was granted a tag, she couldn’t believe what she read. “I didn’t think it was real; I had to read it again,” she said with a chuckle. After learning she was one of the 38 drawn for a moose tag, out of about 9,000 who applied for a tag in the M10 unit, she and her husband went to the area, near Powers Lake, three times to scout out the crop. “We saw quite a few, but they can move around a lot.”
Kelsy was able to share the hunting experience with her husband, Mike, their son, Burton (8), along with Kelsy’s dad, Darin Miller of Bismarck. She said they went out first thing on opening day, October 11. “It was the. . .
