Care Center Holds Annual Meeting

By Jessica Wald

The annual meeting of the Napoleon Care Center, doing business as Wentz Living Center, was held last Tuesday evening, October 21, 2025, where 27 people were in attendance.

WLC Board President Alison Wald welcomed the attendees and introduced the board for the 60th year of operation of the Wentz Living Center.  All board members were present for the annual meeting including President Alison Wald, Teresa Pfeifle, Kevin Wolf, Deran Piatz, Ellene Brendel, Jenny Wigen and Derrick Leier. The financial report was given by WLC Finance Director Julie Becker. She noted the corporation’s total net assets and liabilities have decreased from $21,797,916 to $20,882,246 this year. She said the long-term debt has decreased from last year by $158,188 and the biggest expense is still on the former WLC building. She also said the net assets (with donor restrictions) has decreased from $45,884 to $4,220.

While covering the statement of operations and changes in net assets, Becker said under the expense category, salaries and benefits increase by $133,641 to $2,868,644, due to wage and insurance increases, and the contracted services expense has also increased, since staff numbers have increased. She noted if staffing positions can’t be filled within the community, they must look elsewhere and fill the positions in with contracted services. There was also a note on the loss on impairment with a zero balance, which decreased from the previous $1,038,348. “This is due to the devalue of the old building since it’s not being used anymore,” she stated. Total expenses for 2025 came in at $6,310,718 while total revenues, gains and other support was $5,475,393, for an operating loss of $835,325. “The corporation is running fine; it just looks bad as a net loss,” she concluded.

WLC Administrator Rick Regner began his annual report by stating the heart of the facility is. . .
