Board Discusses Policy Updates

The Napoleon School Board went over multiple policy changes, as previously discussed in policy committee meetings, during the regular monthly meeting last Monday morning, August, 11.
All board members were present including President Taylor Grunefelder, Tori Gross, Shawn Puklich, Corey Schumacher and Derrick Leier, along with admins; Superintendent Rich Bjerklie, Elem. Principal Whitney Weigel and HS Principal Chad Burger.
Bjerklie noted the state legislature approved an electronics ban during instructional school hours and schools must adopt a policy for all devices being turned off from bell to bell. He said the policy includes, but is not limited to, K-12 having no cell phones, smart watches, etc, and the devices should be shut off and left in the students’ locker or vehicles. It was also noted while on call, volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel will be able to leave their devices with a teacher and have a special ring/alarm for emergencies, along with exemptions for those students who need a device for medical issues; both containing strict rules of when the device shall be used.
