Big Second Quarter Leads Lions Past Imperials
A 29-point second quarter by Linton-HMB led the Lions to a 46-84 win over the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter boys basketball team.
In action last Fri., Jan. 30 in Napoleon the Imperials got off to a slow start as they trailed 2-10 early. That was before NGS junior shooting guard Brenden Zenker scored 10-of his 13, including two treys in this stanza. The Imperials managed to tie the game at 14 with 3:45 to play in the first, as the Lions closed out the quarter holding a 17-23 lead.
The second quarter the Lions netted 29 points, while the Imperials only managed 14, led by freshman Steyn DuPreez who had 6 of his team high 16 in this frame for NGS. The half closed with Lion, Jayden Jochim banking in a triple with time expiring, to lift the Lions out in front 31-52.
After the break NGS head coach Logan Klitzke and his squad couldn’t find the bottom of the net until about midway through the third quarter, trailing 33-65. The remainder of the quarter had the Imperial net only three more field goals as the Lions roared to holding a 39-78 lead with only 8 minutes to play.
